Since the beginning of the LGBTQ rights movement, racism has always been prevalent in our community. And 51 years after the Stonewall Riots, it still continues to divide Queer Black and White people, Although we both experience queer oppression, Queer White people still benefit from the system of white privilege and have more access to representation, rights, and benefits than we do.
As Queer Black people we often face the unique disadvantage of experiencing hate and discrimination for both of our identities. We are a part of two communities that don’t fully accept us, so we have to fight every day to belong in a world that doesn't understand who we are. The intersection of race and sexuality that we have creates even more challenges for us; like economic insecurity, health inequity, violence and harassment, religious intolerance, and criminal justice.
Join us as we discuss these topics with Allies and Queer Black Tulsans, creating a more inclusive and equitable city and state for our community.
Now is the time for us to come together to hear the voices that are not being heard and represented, by sharing our stories and experiences.
